Author: John Naman This bracket performs excellently. The design of the bracket allows me drop a remote release cable in the corner of the L and keeps the wire out of the way. Two colleagues saw it in action and plan to get one too.

Author: Michael Stafford I can't afford this at this price, how about getting it down closer to Kirk's L-Bracket price?

Author: Anonymous The Kirk universal L-bracket doesn\'t include a quick release clamp. Add one and the price of the Kirk is a lot closer.

Author: Peter James The genius of the Acratech bracket is how it moves the camera away from the bracket instead of having it snug to the camera body. The space between the bracket and camera body provides easy access to all buttons, doors and ports on the camera; and it also provides a second grip with which to hand hold the camera, like the Kirk Action Grip! The extended bracket has a screw-on rib that can be cleverly adjusted to perfectly align the lens axis in portrait mode, like the stops on Acratech's nodal rail. Finally, if you leave the bracket on a camera body it provides a lot of protection to the body when placing it down with a lens, and without a lens on the body the bracket becomes a stable base on level surfaces in either portrait or landscape. I use the bracket with the quick release clamp adjusted all the way to the edge of the bracket, with a Canon 5D Mark 2. It's really amazing.
Acratech's Extended Universal "L" Bracket seems so simple for the price yet it does provide many things such as:
Solid L-Bracket
Action Grip!
Lens Axis Stop
Camera Armor
Camera Body Stand
I also found it useful to swap the quick release clamps between the nodal rail and the L-Bracket so there would be a bubble at the back of the camera.
About $1000 of precision Acratech hardware between my camera and tripod:
Camera-specific release clamp
Extended Universal L Bracket
Nodal Rail
GV2 Ball head
Leveling Base
Worth every penny!
